Election Dates

Below are some important election dates and deadlines for the 2022 Election year:*

January 3: The first-day candidates running for statewide and multi-county races can file their “Notice of Intent to Gather Signatures” with the Lieutenant Governor’s office. All other candidates must file at their county clerk’s office.

March 7-11: Candidates running for statewide and multi-county races file their declaration of candidacy with the Lieutenant Governor’s office no later than 5 p.m. on the 11th. All other candidates must file at their county clerk’s office.

March 31: Last day for a registered voter may change their voter affiliation before the regular primary election.

April (TBD): Candidates participating in their party’s state convention, must submit signatures no later than 5p.m., 14 days before the state convention.

April 25: Political parties must certify the names of candidates nominated at convention to the Lieutenant Governor’s office

April 27: The Lt. Governor’s office will publish the names of candidates who have qualified for the primary election in the order that they will appear on the ballot.

May 14: First day for candidates on the primary election ballot to submit their candidate profile.

June 7: First day to send out mail ballots to active registered voters.

June 17: Last day an individual can register to vote for the primary election and to submit an alternative address form to the county clerk’s office.

June 21: Last day to send out mail ballots to active registered voters.
